The story of Sati Savitri from the Mahabharata is a powerful testament to a woman’s unwavering devotion and resilience. Savitri, known for her beauty and intellect, exemplifies the strength of true love, even convincing the god of death, Yama, to restore her husband’s life.
However, Savitri’s tale also highlights the oppressive patriarchal norms that persist in society. In modern India, widows often face ostracization and degrading customs, reinforcing outdated gender expectations.
Through her textile sculptures inspired by Sati Savitri, Aneri challenges these patriarchal constructs, sparking reflection on gender equality. The story of Sati Savitri is a reminder of the ongoing struggle for a more equitable society.
